Three vans, and how to choose
The Tempo Traveller comes in four sizes, 12, 13, 14 and 18 seats, with AC and a roof carrier for the bags. It is the van for a group that also carries luggage.
The Force Urbania seats 12 or 16, with AC. The Mahindra Tourister seats 16 and is non-AC. Above 18, the desk sends a mini bus of up to 21 seats.
Tell the desk how many are travelling and how many bags are coming; it matches the van to both.
The price of a day
Out of town, a van costs from ₹20 per km, with ₹700 driver bata a day and a minimum of 250 km for each day. The kilometres run from where the van starts in Madurai and back.
Inside Madurai, for a wedding, a function or a day of visits, the van is hired by the hour, from ₹3,000 for 5 hours and 50 km. The table on this page has every slab and what an extra hour or an extra kilometre costs.
Added at actual, and what is not charged
Toll, parking and any other-state permit are paid at actual; a trip into Kerala pays the Kerala permit. On a hill road the AC is switched off and a hill charge of ₹1,000 is added.
There is no night charge on an outstation trip. GST at 5% is added to the bill.
Pickup in Madurai
The van and its driver are based in Madurai and come to your street, a marriage hall, a hotel near the Meenakshi Amman temple, Madurai Junction, the Mattuthavani bus stand or the airport. Madurai Airport is about 10 km from Madurai Junction (Google Maps, 15 October 2026).
Booking
One WhatsApp message with the date, the pickup point and the headcount brings back one fare. The desk names the advance when it confirms, which depends on the date and on how many vans are free.

The conditions that go with the fare
- Kilometres run from where the vehicle starts in Madurai and back to it, as the vehicle's odometer reads them.
- Outstation trips carry a daily minimum; kilometres beyond it are billed at the per-km rate.
- Driver bata is charged for each calendar day.
- Toll, parking and other-state permits are extra, and GST at 5% is added to the bill.
- On hill roads the AC is switched off, and the trip carries a hill charge of ₹1,000, once for the trip.
- No smoking or alcohol in the vehicle.
- Distances on this site are approximate; detours, road blocks and U-turns are not counted, and the odometer is final. See the terms.
- An advance confirms the booking; the balance is paid to the driver on the trip. Rates move with the diesel price, so the desk confirms the fare when you book.

One message, one fare
Fourteen members of a residents' association in Madurai are planning two days out of town, with a bag each. The organiser is unsure whether a 14-seater has room for the bags, or which van to ask for. She sends the dates, the headcount and the number of bags on WhatsApp. The desk replies with one fare for a 14-seater Tempo Traveller, with the bags on its roof carrier, and the rate and the bata stated. On the day everyone boards at the Mattuthavani bus stand, and the group travels together in one van.
